Where are Garnets Found?

Garnets can be found all around the world, from Africa to Asia to South America. Some of the most prized garnets come from places like Sri Lanka, Kenya and Tanzania.


You can even find garnets in Scotland - if you know where to look..!

Hardness

With a hardness rating of 6.6 - 7.5, Garnets are relatively tough, but still need to be treated with care and protected against knocks and scratches. They can also be heat sensitive so avoid exposing them to any extreme heat.

Garnet, is a gemstone steeped in history and symbolism. In ancient times, garnets were believed to possess protective powers and were worn as amulets to ward off evil spirits.


Known for its association with love, passion, and energy, Red Garnet is believed to ignite the flames of creativity and vitality in those who wear it.


Thousands of years ago, the Egyptian Pharos wore red garnets around their necks. A rather stylish red garnet bead necklace was found in a tomb in Egypt is more than 5,000 years old.


In ancient Rome, signet rings with carved garnets were used to stamp the wax that secured important documents.

From the deep red Almandine Garnet to the vibrant green Tsavorite Garnet, each has its own unique personality and energy. Some garnets even change colour depending on the type of light in which they are viewed.

Yes indeed - gem quality red garnets can be found in the Highlands of Scotland and if you're lucky you might just spot one twinkling in the shingle of Ruby Bay; a beautiful beach on the East Coast, between Edinburgh and St Andrews.
