Oh la vache...! The Toi et Moi engagement ring is usually a bit of a statement - unapologetically glamorous and ever so romantic.
So what is a Toi et Moi Ring?
It’s basically an elegant ring setting with two large beautiful gemstones. What’s not to love...? "Toi et Moi" translates to “you and me” in French and symbolises love and partnership. It’s a classic ring style and first gained attention with a diamond and sapphire Toi et Moi engagement ring that Napoleon Bonaparte had made to propose to Josephine de Beauharnais in 1796.
A fresh take on a classic
Traditionally, the Toi et Moi ring features two different gemstones in matching sizes and cuts, but these days jewellery designers like myself love to play around with contrasting cuts, sizes and settings to create a more contemporary look. As much as it's fun to try different combination, there's a few practical pairing tricks to make for a beautiful harmonious design.
Contrasting shapes
Combining a geometric cut with something softer brings a fresh, modern feel to the ring. Like this gorgeous pear-shaped yellow diamond paired with a radiant cut white diamond. The playful, asymmetrical placement adds a fun twist while keeping a sense of harmony between them.
Coloured Gemstones
The beauty of the Toi et Moi ring is that you get to choose two amazing gemstones! This style is so personal to each couple and many of my clients like to feature their birthstones. You can however, go for whatever gemstones you fancy. Contrasting colours can be a delightful bold statement, or go for one coloured gemstone paired with a diamond for a pop of colour without overpowering the design.
Oval cuts
Oval cut gemstones have this lovely way of elongating the finger giving the ring an elegant feel. In the photo above, we paired an oval cut with a wider cushion cut to give the ring an unexpected, yet beautiful balance.
