Where are emeralds found?
Ancient empires have mined emeralds for centuries. The first known emerald mines were in Egypt, dating from at least 330 BC. Today, most emeralds come from South America, mainly Colombia and Brazil, but they’re also found in Africa, Afghanistan and China.
Hardness
With a hardness rating of 7.5 - 8. Emeralds are quite tough, but they can also be brittle due to their natural characteristics. I always factor this into my designs and make sure the gems are as protected possible.
Cleopatra
The Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra had a passion for Emeralds. It’s said that she adorned herself and her palace in them and even gifted emeralds carved in her likeness as a display of her prestige and power.

The beautiful green tones of emerald is believed to symbolise growth, peace, hope and fertility. According to legend, emeralds give the wearer the ability to foresee the future and protect them against evil spells.
Colour
Emerald is the green to bluish green variety of beryl, a mineral that also includes aquamarine, morganite and heliodor. However, the green emerald is the most prized and valuable of all.
